If you’re interested in a degree from a leading foreign affairs university, you can apply to Georgetown University in Qatar (GU-Q). Established in Education City in 2005, GU-Q offers a four-year undergraduate program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service (BSFS) degree. The liberal arts education at GU-Q offers students training in a wide range of subjects, along with the ability to specialize in key international affairs topics.

Majors
01Georgetown University in Qatar prepares undergraduate students for a variety of careers through a four-year liberal arts education focused upon the multidisciplinary study of international affairs. Students declare a major in the fall semester of their second year, then usually pursue coursework for the major in the third and fourth years of studies.
Culture and Politics
Explore the connection between culture, knowledge, and power by studying the construction of political and cultural identities.
International Economics
Understand markets and economic relationships among countries and how to evaluate the effects and success of policies targeting the economic welfare of individuals, firms, and countries.
International History
Investigate the breadth and depth of human activity by studying intellectual, economic, social, and cultural dimensions of societies and states.
International Politics
Examine how governments and non-state actors compete and cooperate with one another on issues including policy, strategy, and security.
Minors and Certificates
02Students at Georgetown University in Qatar also have the option of pursuing a range of certificate programs and minors alongside their majors.
Certificate in American Studies
The program provides students with a solid understanding of the historical development of the United States, providing the necessary context for the exploration of cultural and social themes across a variety of disciplines, as well as the advanced study of American political processes and institutions.
Certificate in Arab and Regional Studies
The program capitalizes on the unique geographical, cultural, and academic situation of GU-Q to highlight the connection of regional history with current issues, as well as to stress the impact of culture on the self-understanding of the Arab and Islamic world and its relationship with the West.
Certificate in Media and Politics
Offered in partnership with Northwestern University in Qatar, the program enables students to better understand how politicians, diplomats, and policy makers influence, and are themselves influenced by, the media in its myriad forms and formats. It also introduces students to the ideological and political implications of the representations that the mass media generate.
Minors
Students can pursue minors in Economics, History, Government, Philosophy, and Theology. They can also pursue an Arabic minor, but the requirements of the Qatar campus minor differ from those at the main campus.
